Yaw Rate Sensor. Buying updated one VS refurbished one.

    hello, I have 2001 e46 M3.

Not sure this topic has been discusssed before.

Recenlty DSC warning light and Tire Pressure Warning light came on. then Ran the diagnostic, It said Yaw Rate Sensor is Fualty. (or It is called "Speed Sensor", "Rotation Rate sensor" which Is located under the Dirver's Seat)

I think I have to change Yaw Rate Sensor. Parts Number "34526864094"

    Meanwhile, I found few things.

1.Yaw Rate Sensor Is quilte expensive.

    2. There are few seller selling Refurbished Yaw Rate Sensor for e46 on Ebay. most of them have blue Label with ATE logo (company name) parts number is "34526754289"

    3. Yaw Rate Sensor has been updated few times. recent Update was 2013. Most recent updated one has white Label (or No label. Just laser imprint) with Continental logo on it. parts number is "34526864094"

    4. Two Company, Ate and Continental seems to related or collaborate in some ways. (both German Company and make brake parts, sensors too.)

    So, My Questions.

    1. Is it worth to buy Refurbished or Remanufactured Yaw Rate Sensor from Ebay? They say, they recalibrated and test it. And warranty for certain amount of period. price is significantly cheaper than new and updated one.

    2. Is Updated one "34526864094" better than old one "34526754289"? BMW has updated in 2013 after e46 has been discontiuned. I think There must be good reason to update the part even e46 has been discontinued.

    3. Should I reprogram or code after install new Yaw Rate Sensor wiht software?

So which one should I buy? 34526864094 vs 34526754289?

Any experience related with Yaw Rate Sensor will be helpful to me. Thanks!

I believe the sensor is different for 01-02 models with the MK20 ABS vs later models with the MK60.

I don't see an issue with using a used part.

I had my mk60 yaw sensor fail and bought a used one from ebay. Works great. Considering a new sensor is crazy expensive I think going used is the way to go here.

just get a cheap one to test out if problem's resolved ..

        how do they re-furbished it?

as for the fix, you just need to swap in the replacement, no reprogramming is needed.

Technically there is a calibration procedure to tell the dsc that yaw sensor was replaced. Not sure if its required but I did it when replacing mine.

I don’t think these can be refurbished.

Got one off of ebay. New one is stupid expensive. Been about a year and zero issues.

You will need ISTA, DIS or something like the Schwaben scanner. INPA won’t do it.

Go into DSC module, select something like “calibrate yaw sensor”.

This may happen automatically. Not sure. But I think each sensor stores unique calibration values that the DSC needs to know.

My early '01 is on its 3rd one. PO had replaced with a used one in 2015 at around 100k. It crapped out last year and I bought another used one off ebay. Was plug and play in my case. I have no issues with used ones, at least until the supply dries up.
