Section 1 vs Section 2 Unresonated differences

Hi, I have catless headers with SS Race muffler. Stock section 1 and 2. I'd like it a little louder. Could anyone recommend taking out the resonator in section 1 or section 2? Would this make much of a difference?

Does section 1 vs 2 resonator affect tone/volume in different ways?

Removing resonators will only make the sound more harsh, not louder. Mufflers are what make exh quieter.

I can't imagine wanting your car louder when you already are catless with SS Race, but ok. Maybe try muffler delete.

I think so, but every car is different.

Are you stepping down in size from header to section 1?

In theory, resonators are just small mufflers.

A resonator will slightly lower your overall DB level, but much less so than your actual muffler.

The car had bimmerworld section 1 rasp terminator + supersprint section 2 resonated x-pipe. I put the oem 1 and 2 back in and it is definitely louder now, but maybe it's harshness. Perhaps harsher vs louder is hard to pinpoint, but I love the "harsh" sound. I figured my only way to be louder would be be Bimmerworld Race Exhaust.

The car has Megan headers, I couldn't find exact specs on width, but I remember it about the same when I put the section 1 on.

I also love the sound of the SCZA Muffler, but it's a little too quiet. I want to try unresonated fully all the way to the muffler and see how that sounds. Can't find that on youtube.

I always thought that the resonated Section 1 and 2 simply change the exhaust tone. They are not material enough to impact overall sound. As someone said already, resonators are just small mufflers. I think that your biggest impact on sound will be the muffler that you have on the car.

                Resonators are not mufflers.

A metal container with a perforated interior pipe with fiberglass packing is not a muffler?

In Tbone's defense, both mufflers and resonators come in many different configurations. Some mufflers just use baffles, some are perforated, etc. I understand what he meant, but in actual practice both are just canceling sound waves by bouncing frequencies.

The El Diablo Rasp pipe is a great example of a "muffler" being used a resonator.

Well we may as call the coolant expansion tank the "Gas tank" you know, since both hold hold liquids that keep the engine cool.

I know that mufflers and resonators come in many different configurations, I just didn't feel like typing out a longer response.

I always thought of resonators as used for cleaning up the sound or altering the exhaust sound while muffler plays a bigger role in the overall exhaust sound volume. Your correct that both are just canceling sound waves by bouncing or absorbing frequencies.

Well I'll cut out my section 1 resonator and let you all know how it affected it..

The only resonators I know to have lowered volume are the ones in my car, Vibrant Ultra Quiets.

If you want more noise, you can go with an oversized Sec 2 or an X pipe.

Also, the SS Race is literally the most Honda Civic sounding exhaust you can put on this car. You sure you wanna hear it more?
