    Bosch reman steering rack caution

I installed a Bosch reman steering rack and could not get the steering wheel even close to where it was before. Upon further inspection the dust cover on the pinion where the guibo attaches was installed about 80 degrees off. Luckily I had the turner motorsports steering rack centering tool and I was able to center the rack and install the dust cover properly. The dust cover has a arrow on the edge that lines up with a marking on the rack.

Just a heads up to anyone buying a Bosch reman steering rack. Hopefully this saves someone a headache in the future if they run into the same problem.

Good advice. At least your Bosch reman rack came with the pinion dust cover, the Rackdoctor unit I have didn't have one. I should have kept the old one.
By chance did you take a photo of the dust cover pip alignment in relation to the rack's markings?

How do you like the rack otherwise? Knopdm

Otherwise the rack was good. My old rack had a ton of play at center and would audibly cluck when you jiggled the steering wheel. Even with 1/8 toe in it was sloppy. New rack with 1/16 toe in was pretty stable in comparison.

Do you want the dust cover from my old steering rack?
