Speaker recommendation while panels are out

Hi - I’m in the process of doing an interior swap from grey interior to red and I have all the door panels out. I don’t really have any issue with the stock speakers but was wondering if you guys think I should upgrade them for a little bit better sound.

Do you guys have any recs outside of the bav sound upgrade which is a bit expensive?

I would like to know too. I know mb quart made direct plug ins but other than that it always seems like bavsound.

Yup, you can order them in. I was considering it, but doesn't sit well with me to order things overseas sometimes. The last time I ordered and oil cooler from the UK radtec for my E60 M5 and also my seats from Murray. Took forever.

You don't need speakers. You'd want an amp for a significant improvement in audio fidelity.

I only know of Alpha 1 because member droptopking just got one. Otherwise, I'm not up to date on the latest for E46 stuff.

You might rethink this with the currency situation right now. I ordered some items from the UK and Italy not long ago and saved a ton + with DHL it didn’t take long enough to worry about. Both showed up on my doorstep within a week.

But I’m pretty sure the MBQuarts will require a lot more power. Maybe run them with a head unit upgrade + amps.

I'm sure I'll take crap for this, but it's true, my motor, CAI, and cat-back are my "stereo". That's the only music ever played in my M. Just sayin'...

While I agree with adding an amp for improvement. I'd pull them out and swap them. My speaker has micro tears in them since they're 20+ years old. Any type of amp will 100% blow a hole through all of them with any additional power.

That's not a bad shout. My comment is more like, if you are only doing 1 thing to improve an oem system, amp is the weakest link. Not all speakers, even this many years later, are in poor condition though.

+1… I recently did this in an ‘06 German with a Bose system (change speakers only)… the difference is palpable, just because speakers have gotten better in 15 years, similar to tires… materials science.

So I think this is a place where new simply beats old just because, you know, innovation.
