    EWS no communication code 66

Hey! I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I need some help with my 2005 M3 SMG. I recently replaced the car battery and the car was running normally before the battery replacement. After battery replacement, I started the car and it fired right up. Then I shut the car off. And when I tried to start it again, the key would turn to position 2 with the lights, radio and everything else turning on, but it won’t crank. Once that happened, I started scanning the car for codes, and it was giving me EWS interface code 66 no communication. I looked into it and received a recommendation that it could be the battery in the key and to replace the key battery. That was not the case. I checked all the fuses, and they’re all good. When I looked into it further it seemed I had a bad key. So I bought a brand new key, and it still didn’t solve the issue. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are you aware of any relays that might have gone bad or that I should check? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In addition to authenticate the key, EWS also needs input data from SMG controller (in neutral and with proper SMG oil pressure), brake pedal down signal. So verify these inputs. You also need to check the EWS pin2 (from ignition contact) and it should have 12v when key turned to START.

Yes! This bit me a couple times.

There is a way to log a channel from the DME using the Foxwell/Schwaben tool that will tell you the reason why car won’t start.

Not sure how to log the same channel with INPA though. I’m sure there is a way.
