    Karbonious intake question

I just took out my stock air box and am trying figure out if the metal rings on the Karbonious box are supposed to unscrew like on the stock air box.

I've got all the rubber boots removed and was hoping they would thread on to the Karb. box so I wouldn't have to remove the Ear type clamps still on the boots.

It sure does NOT feel like the Karbonius has the threaded setup like the stock box. I tried to unscrew the metal rings and they didn't move so I stopped trying very quickly.

I would assume that I need to remove these threaded rings from my boots and use new ear clamps to locate the boots on the Karb. box.

I recall their older airboxes had a threaded portion like the OE trumpets. The current airboxes might have them glued in place. Either way, if you want the orientation of the ear clamp facing down and a guaranteed seal, it is probably best to use new clamps.

I recall that you have the newer style crankcase vent hose. You most likely also have the newer style itb boots that are different from the ones needed to run this box. You need the earlier style boots that were on the 01-04ish airboxes.

That is indeed the case in regards to the crankcase vent hose, however I believe I'm OK on the boots as my car was manufactured 06/2004 and I believe they switch to the bigger style boots 10/2004.

Man I hope my boots will work, wanted to this going by the weekend!

Yeah that’s not a given. They switched over in 10/2004. In fact my car was built in 10/2004 and still had the old boots anyway.

So they must have used a different airbox PN as well to go with the larger diameter boots? I don't understand why that change was made

You've got the older boots and I'm not 100% certain but the rings certainly appeared epoxied in place on my Karbonius airbox. I purchased and crimped new ear type clamps on the airbox; don't forget to install the boots onto the box with the crimp side facing down (airbox oriented up) so that they are out of sight for the cleanest look. Then install the assembly on the motor with the resusable clamps.

Yes, I think you’re good on the boots based on that pic. Lucky as the boots are quite expensive new. On my 05 I had to buy an entire additional airbox to salvage the boots from it as it was cheaper than buying them new.

For your other question, I removed the factory crimp clamps and used some stainless hose clamps from autozone on the boots and it has worked out fine.

Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, anyone with older style boots can reuse? Mine's an 03 pre-facelift so I'm sure I have the older style. Saves a couple stacks!

^^^ yes you can reuse them. I end up buying a SMG airbox to salvage the boots too. $60 compare to $200+ for new boots. (SMG airbox goes cheaper than 6mt)

Yes, remove the threaded part from the stock boots. Might be easier just to remove the clamps.

Can anybody confirm the boot part number that is compatible with the Karbonius airbox. I'm looking for replacement boots between the airbox and each throttle body. Thanks!

looks like another thing that i only just now found out about to install my airbox.
my car was built 1/05 so that for sure means i need the boots right.
