Individual Petrol Blue / Ecru - amateur photoshoot

After 10 years of ownership, I decided to try and take some photos. Complete amateur here but apparently that's ok thanks to an entry level DSLR. Enjoy!

God damn I love the full leather dash.

I'm amazed the ecru still looks so good, 20 years after it rolled off the production line. I wouldn't have expected that to be a color that aged well.

Thanks! To be honest, I got this car because of the interior. At first I was hesitant thinking color of the leather is too 'old man' due to the its warm-tone but Petrol blue paint balances it out well. If I could chose, I'd probably rather have Oxford green on cinnamon but this is a little more classy and less flashy I guess.

Nice M3! I'm not sure if it is the lighting, angles or the dark color ZCP wheels, but the exterior shots look a bit off.

Thanks! Could be all of the above - it's my first attempt at this so not pretending to be a pro lol

Will be experimenting more with the camera next year as the car is going in storage for the winter...

Kiwi is similar to Ecru but even less neutral and only goes well with fewer standard paint options available on the E46, IMO. Which exterior color are you looking to pair it with?

It’s my original interior for my JB M3. Now the car has a full OE CSL interior.

I’ll second the extended leather. I saw a euro steel grey over extended cinnamon and that interior was one of the most stunning things I’ve seen. This is a great combo! Enjoy it.

Thanks and yes, every other extended leather car I've seen blew me away. Hadn't realized these existed until I saw my present car in the for sale ad and then found out that even E30 had this option, let alone E36 and all the newer generations. Expensive but definitely sets the car apart in OE fashion that can't be matched by anything aftermarket IMO...

Awesome color. It's basically just gonna look black in your photos unless its in direct sun. Side light looks the best.

I actually own a dash board that's aftermarket wrapped in imola leather, that's pretty indistinguishable from the OE version... but I haven't installed it, because it smells like an ash tray.

Why does it smell like an ash tray? I've removed a dashboard before so I know how much work it is, especially when being careful not to scratch the leather. But it will be worth it...

In UK/Europe (m3cutters website), people who really want the extended leather on dash end up buying ANY color and dye it to match theirs. It's clearly cheaper than having a standard dash covered in leather then dyed. At least in their region where E46 leather dashboards were not unicorns like they are in North America....

This video shows a guy restoring an OE leather dash and other extended leather pieces to cinnamon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u6v2I5p_sw

I also noticed ECS and other sources now sell extended leather parts (center console, rear ashtray bracket) though at insane prices....

I assume the original owner of the dash smoked in his car.

It might actually be OE, for all I know-- but it was not sold to me as such. All the stitches are in the correct place, and there's no bulging, etc.

I actually had my dash out when I bought it, for my wiring harness project, so it would have been no additional work install it.

... I do have the OE Imola center console and arm rest. ECS was sitting on one in stock for like 4 years. I emailed them a lowball offer, and they took it :P
