Looking for OEM CSL intake flap (11617833498) for Karbonius

    Hello all,

I am looking to buy the OEM control unit/intake flap snorkel thingy, as I will be buying a Karbonius intake in the near future. I see its pretty much sold out everywhere. Any ideas on were to get this item, or if/when it would be back in stock at places? I think the going rate for this item was around $450 earlier this year.

    Thanks!

Should be available normally, I checked for you. BMW Germany has 19 of these in stock.

    E39 ///M5 • 12/1998 • avus-blau • 6MT

You clearly haven’t looked much because they are most definitely available but not at that price. Time to accept the fact that our cars are 20 years old and prices for genuine parts especially unique ones such as the snorkel will only become more expensive until they are no longer available. It’s obvious that nobody will sell a used one for cheap considering the circumstances. I’m in a similar boat and face the same challenge… should have bought the OE snorkel while it was cheap. Now you have to pay triple the original price or go with something aftermarket such as Karbonius or other alternatives…

On the flip side, a brand new Karbonius airbox has never been cheaper due to euro being less than USD so the money you overpay for an OE snorkel you will save on the airbox if that’s what you’re getting anyways…

Yea I did look around but was surprised to see they are 2-3x the price they were earlier this year, and the stores I typically order from are sold out.

PetrolM3 At this high of a price point would it not be better to just get the carbon snorkel from Karbonius? Or you are set on the OEM look like I was?

        Thanks all.

I’d prefer OEM but would consider Karbonius or others and then paint them satin or flat black to look closer to OEM… will decide when I’m ready to purchase. Still on the fence overall with the airbox.

Ah interesting. I actually thought about buying the carbon box in gloss from Karbonius, and then the snorkel in Matte carbon from Karbonius to make it closer to OEM but this could either look really good or terrible and I am not sure unless I see it done....

I will let you know if I end up finding a supplier for the OEM control unit/flap at a more reasonable price.

            Thanks

The matte or painted snorkel would be a cool option. The gloss snorkel always looks out of place IMO. At that point, I'd just get the race airbox. If only they made the race airbox without the small step down similar to the OEM race airbox.

That is something I thought of as well but wasn’t sure if I’d regret it or if Karbonius would even do the mix and match though I don’t see why not.. but I think this could work really well to make the snorkel less flashy looking. I think karb should make something more oem looking..

Agreed… not a fan of the gloss snorkel. The OE piece is perfect for what it is…

I agree, I would have ordered the race box as it is great value for a very nice piece but wish it looked more like the OEM one without that step.

I am surprised a company hasn't made (or not that I know of) a plastic replica of the CSL snorkel without the flap. I have seen the Haimus one but Its a bit different then the OEM one..

The rubber seal around the flap has degraded and fallen off. I wonder if anyone has had the same issue and if there is something else that fits the flap
