Hey everyone -
As the title states, last night I did a pull on the highway last night just for the hell of it as I hadn't really ripped on the car in over a month, and I smelled oil burning slightly (had the windows down), but could not tell if it was my car on the road. When I did another to double-check a few miles later, I didn't smell anything strange. This still prompted me to open the hood when I got home and check out what's going on
I was poking around and looking at my injectors I noticed that they seemed to be glossy - they had some kind of residue or sweat to them. I don't have any misfires or anything that is causing me to think something is wrong, but I'm wondering if this is normal or if it's something I need to look further into - Here's what I noticed:
Fuel Injector Sweat / Oil Residue -
- Relatively injectors: self-replaced about 2 years ago now
- Sweat/residue consists of an oily substance with black particles on it that comes off when you wipe it with your finger, does not smell, however. Seems like PCV air?
- Sweat/residue seen on all injectors AND parts on fuel rail (look at green circles in photos)
- Looks very similar to the top of the power steering reservoir
Other conditions on the car for you to consider -
- PCV system replaced about 2 years ago: PCV valve and the 2 hoses that are part of the system
- I was running e85 on the car but stopped using it when I replaced the injectors
- Am getting the yellow oil light when I turn the car off although my oil level is fine (I think the sensor is gone but thought to mention it)
- Valve cover gasket was replaced about 2 years ago or 20k ago and doesn't show signs of leaking from what I could tell
Take a look at the pictures and any input would be appreciated!
Thank you!
Jonathan
