Euro headers question

Hi - i wanted to get the opinion from all the experts here. Unfortunately my car was rear ended and long story short everything is fixed now professionally. I did hear a leaking sound from the exhaust when i turned on my car and then realized that the JVT (eBay) headers i have on are cracked.

My mechanic told me that he can take them off, weld them and put them back on which should fix the issue but im wondering if i am paying for labor anyways, is it worth it to get a set of euro headers and swap them out for the cheap eBay headers that I got with the car from the PO?

I am running high flow cats so it wouldn’t be catless but wondering if it’s worth paying up for Euro headers vs. cheap eBay headers instead of the minimal cost of just welding the current ones. I do plan to keep the car long enough so not sure how long the weld would even last.

If you're paying for labor, then I'd go with the euros and avoid paying for labor again in the future.

Definitely do OEM euro or something even less raspy.

I would replace them. If your gonna stay Euro OE then do OEM if your gonna do eBay I wouldn't do anything other than Megan. Also worth considering upgrade and get SSV1 & Cats.

So...you can just weld the headers and send it.

A shielding gas is used when welding to stop oxidation or corrosion. The problem here is most shops will just weld on the header. The exterior side of the weld is good. The back side was not shielded. Eventually the back side of the weld will "sugar" or corrode and fail. The weld may last a long time, just depends, but this is something to be aware of.

The optimal way is to weld with tri-mix gas and back purge. You'd have to seal up the header, fill with tri-mix gas, and weld it up. Most shops won't back purge let along use tri-mix gas. If you ever wonder why welding certain things seems expensive...this could be a reason.

If the weld is back purged, the weld should last forever.

If you're really on a budget, the cheapest/easiest thing to do (beside putting stock headers back on) is to get Megan headers off ebay for like $400.

If you're money conscious, but want quality parts and are willing to spend a little more, Euro headers are a great choice. Probably the best overall choice other than SSv1s.

JVTs are decent enough catless headers, but not worth fixing.
