Getting seats reupholstered

Hi everyone, My original 2001 seats have seen better days so I took the car to a local upholstery guy that does a lot of custom work and for local dealers. He mentioned that the leather has shrunk from previous owners not caring for them and letting them dry out. Even on the side you can see where the frame of the seat is starting to show behind the leather. The rest of the seat doesn’t look too bad however he mentioned that it will eventually rip at the stitching. He showed me the different leather options that he uses for BMW and Audi and I settled on one. He gave me a price of $500 per seat for labor and about $300-380 for material for both. Didn’t sound that bad to me however Ive never done anything like this as I always have new cars. He also checked my headliner and said he could redo it for $400. What do you guys think about the prices? Wife isn’t happy about this M3. LOL

Seams cheap in comparison of what some other threads have mentioned. It honestly comes down to, do you know their work, are they insured, can he garuntee you the results you want and if he doesn't delivery you're covered.

I would search for a good condition OEM set instead

Genuine BMW covers used to turn out looking spectacular, but are no longer available sadly.

I think Joni / bmwrestoredseats on IG does have it down pretty good for an aftermarket option.

I think MMM Interior did a great job on mine AND the custom rear touring seat in M3 style turned out great.

That’s what I’m worried about however I saw his work in person on a few cars and it looked great. Never know how these would turn out.

Agreed. BMWrestoredseats is no exception, IMO — I’ll never understand why so many people think his work is so good, his seats never look right to my eyes.

M texture front seat covers are still available from bmw but they are insanely pricey. I almost bought a set in a moment of weakness.

Plus if I was going to pay for $1500 a seat for OEM covers I would just upgrade to Recaro Sportsters CS as they look amazing! The OEM seats aren’t that great to start with however I wanted to refresh the interior without getting crazy. My wife isn’t happy with the idea of this “OLD” car I’m spending money on to start.
