Avin Avant 4 Functionality Help

Hello,

Purchased an Avin head unit with only the CarPlay add on, otherwise it is stock with their most recent hardware/software options. I have a few questions and wanted to reach out to see if anyone has installed the system recently and run into similar issues. There is no owners manual or documentation that comes with the kit. I replaced the factory business unit deck with the Avin. I have an HK system retrofitted with Bavsound speakers and HK factory amp.

1. My steering wheel controls are not working for volume up/down or track forward/back. The canbus decoder that came with the kit is plugged in as part of the install. Wondering if I got one that was a dud. When I go to settings to configure steering wheel hotkeys, the system is not registering the steering wheel input.

2. I didn’t order a reverse camera and don’t plan on running one. When I put the car in reverse, the music stops - how can I turn this off?I could not find any settings under “Car” or any other sub menu. I went through them all. Is there a way to configure the deck so it knows I am not using a reverse camera entirely. I’d love for the deck to stay as is and not go black with the hazard sign when I put the car in reverse.

3. I’ve done some research and a few threads have pointed me towards the “Factory Settings” menu item. When I select that, I get a pop up box prompting me to enter text - I’m not sure what to do here… 😅

I’ve emailed Avin’s support team but have low expectations based on what I’ve heard.

Other than these 2 small issues, the deck is amazing. Instant boot up and it really brings my Bavsound speakers to life.

Canbus settings were verified and the system is reading the module - steering wheel controls are still not working

If you can have Avin, can you confirm your Canbus settings match mine?


Under the “Other” tab of the factory settings page, you can disable both the front and rear cameras which seems to stop the prompt from my testing with the car in accessory mode.


I’ll circle back once I figure out the steering wheel controls issue solution unless someone else beats me to it

They sent me a replacement CANBUS box (red box) unit and it still did not work. After a dozen other small issues, namely the unit skipping and cutting out while I was driving, I was able to ask for a warranty exchange and I've had zero issues with the replacement unit. Submit a case through support and see if they can help you out.

Turns out it was a small cable apart from the main canbus cable that wasn't connected. Completely my fault, easy to miss small things like that without a proper installation guide.
