Michelin PS4S Owners..... How do you store your car?

Question for Michelin PS4S Owners, how are you storing your car for long periods of time?

I currently have a set of Michelin PS4S on my M3 convertible. The car is primarily stored in a temperature controlled garage and driven on nice days where I can drive with the top down. Now this makes the car stored for the majority of time, especially during the winter. My issue is that I am developing flat spots from the car sitting. I drove it the other day for the first time in like 2-3 months. When driving especially at speeds of 40mph to 80mph, there was a vibration in the steering wheel. I ended up driving the car for quite a bit that day, as I drove the vibrations began less and less noticeable. Finally, before I parked the car back in the garage there was no vibrations at all. Clearly, this was probably due to the car sitting for 2-3 months and flat spotting in that portion of the tire. Once the tire heated back up, the tires developed it's natural round shape.

I understand the PS4S is a soft compound tire and it will deform rather easily. I read that it would be good to overinflate tire to max psi to help with this, but Michelin explicitly warns owners not to overinflate the air pressure in the tires. I also thought about buying some rubber mats or dense foam installation to store the car on them so that the car settles on the mats to prevent flat spotting.

Also please don't suggest pulling wheels off car or putting the car on jack stands, I realize that this is an option but I want to be able to access the car quickly and not spend a lot of time prepping the car should I decide to drive the car.

Are you guys having this problem with PS4S tires, especially owners that do not drive their cars often? What have been your solutions? How long it is normally taking for your tires to develop flat spots?

I overinflate though I don't see the issue as I am not running them at this pressure, just storing.

Same here. 50PSI only while stored (Dec-March inclusive, sometimes longer). Release extra pressure upon taking out of storage - never had any issues.

It seems that that curvature would only fit on particular size tire as all tires will have different overall diameter. I saw another company that offers a set that uses hard rubber that forms to the tire curvature of your specific tire.

I thought so too, but I read on the Michelin Site

Notice your tire is flat-spotting? Diagnose your flat tire symptoms and get it back in healthy condition with Michelin's tire assessment.

Tire Flat Spotting – How do I minimize it?

As we have stated above, typical tire flat spotting is not permanent, however, it could be a temporary annoyance. Fortunately, steps to minimize flat spotting are in line with good tire maintenance. You can minimize tire flat spotting by keeping your tires at placard pressure. We do not recommend that you inflate beyond placard pressure and certainly do not over-inflate. Also, for your tires and for your vehicle, regular operation and movement of your vehicle is recommended. For tire/vehicle storage, see the website section on tire storage.

Will over-inflating my tires help prevent flat spotting?

No, in general over-inflating your tires will not help flat spotting. In some cases it could make it worse. We recommend placard pressure and not higher.

If I were storing for more than a month on a regular basis, I'd do flat stoppers. I have two cars that get stored during cold months--I try to run them at least once every 2 weeks, a month at most and have had success. I've noticed one car with Yokohamas is more sensitive to flat spotting than the M3 with PS4s.

My E36 has sat for 3, 4 months without moving, and never once has this happened.

Same with my E46 on PSS.

I also try to run the car when I can but with my work schedule sometimes that is not possible. Definitely agree with you that driving the car is the best way to avoid these flat spots.

Oddly enough, I had PSS prior to my current PS4 and I don’t recall the PSS having the flat spotting issues as much as I do with the PS4’s.

I am also wondering if it is not tire related, but the car seems to have the vibrations when I first start driving and seems to go away the more I drive it.

                          I was looking at these:

The proven, most tested, and original flat spot prevention solution; Tire Cradle parking pads. Trusted by many museums and the most elite vehicle collectors worldwide. Any car, any tire, totally protected.

They are a bit pricey but these actually form the to curvature of the specific tire that you have on your car.

No cost/tech solution - every week or two just roll the car 1-2 feet forward or back so its resting on a different patch of tire.

I haven't experienced or at least noticed flat spotting on my ps4s, but this works for my other car on classic/repop bias ply tires - those will flat spot enough to rattle your teeth out.

Quickjacks would be a quick way to lift the car up and then just lower and slide them out of the way.

Doing that once every 3 months doesn't seem like such a big deal.
