How to identify engine version_ LCI vs pre- LCI_

Hello guys, I am about to do rod bearings on my car and since I will have very limited time on my friends car lift, I need to order all parts prior to the service. My concern is- I know that my car had engine replaced in the past, but I don’t know if there is updated version with better oil pump and M10 connecting rod bolts or pre LCI version with M11.

Is there any way how can I identify the engine prior to opening it?

I know that it is advised to replace M10 rod bolts and that M11, you can reuse. Do you guys always replace rod bolts for new one or reuse if M11?

While doing rod bearings, is there any reason to inspect oil pump? Was there any common problem with that Since I know that LCI cars did get upgraded version.

    thanks

Earlier pre-facelift (some 2001)S54 have a different valve cover, it’s cast differently and look more flat on top of each valves.
