carwow: All BMW M3 Generations DRAG RACE

carwow just pit every M3 generation against each other in a drag race. Really impressed with how the E46M fared against the newer cars (though I think something is up with that E92) considering the gap in age and technology. Race starts at the 5:20 mark.

We should also line up an elementary school kid, a JR high kid, a high schooler, a college athelete/professional to run a 100m dash. Would be a real toss up.

Fun video. I think other than the last two generations we all realize the M3 isn't a straight line car unless modified to be so. A stock e9x set a new standard for how boring a V8 "sports car" could be so did about what I would expect.

You just reminded me of the one time ESPN debated how much an adult male would have to de-age LeBron James in order in beat him in basketball 1v1.

Tell me you've never driven an E92/E90 M3 without telling me.

You must be joking but I guess I didn't realize they were unobtainium. I've driven them and for a v8, stock, they are boring. Boring, numb, and devoid of character.

So you sat behind the wheel, but you don't know how to drive. Got it.

Once you get near the edge, it reveals itself to be an absolute monster. I can only conclude you did what most people do: drive it easy, starting low in the powerband, not using the 6 or 7 gears properly, maybe slowly getting up to redline, probably not and then proclaim it to be lacking torque or feel or whatever.

You are failing to take into account what I also own and drive. A lot more character in both my V8s. I driven several e9x hard and I found them lacking but I'm glad others don't. Of course I can't take them to their literal edge but I don't need to get to the edge in my other V8s. Their fun in all power bands which is what I was after since I'm not at the track.

Right, so you didn't drive it properly enough to make an informed conclusion hence the joke of a comment made earlier in this thread. I don't care about what you the individual consumer is looking for in an easy Sunday cruising car or whatever. I refute your baseless comment above.

Ok, I'll amend it, it's boring and numb in stock form considering its a V8 in 90% of all use cases.

I was surprised the E36 was so far behind the E46, there must be something wrong with that specific car.

It would be fun to see a video of those cars doing lap time around a track with same tires and brake pads.

Have to agree, drove a mint one when I was looking to sell the e46 and just wasn't feeling it, appreciated the e46 even more afterward.
