i used to do mine from bottom, on ramp, on lift, but recent years i got lazy,
have done the past at least 10 changes from the top,
it was quick and clean, and quiet (especially i did most of the change at night after work, quietness is a must, once parked, i don't have to move the car) ..
didn't notice any difference, so i think from top is ok on our M3s ..
