advice on this clutch and flywheel (pics)

    hi guys,
bought a vert M3 with a buddy of mine to tidy up. few jobs needed subframe, head gasket , clutch, will do vanos too.

anyways about the clutch, (SMG) we were experiencing shudder at take off so thought to check out the clutch etc while engine is out. anyways have a look at the pics. brand is SACHS.

the clutch and pressure plate and flywheel have like a small indent right around. can see in the pics. the clutch has more life in it though.

what do you guys recommend? i was hoping not to have to change flywheel.

    any advice is much appreciated.

Try checking your driveline first like the center support bearing or the guibo and see if they’re worn or cracked. They will cause the driveshaft to shudder. Another thing to check are your wheel bearings. My car has the same shuddering problem and it’s my rear wheel bearings.

Interesting that your clutch doesn't have a self-adjusting mechanism -- does this mean that it's not original? My car was an SMG and had an SAC when I pulled the trans off to swap to 6MT -- if the SMG is calibrated for that I'd imagine having an SMG with a non-SAC would cause problems as the engagement point moves?

Centre bearing is cracked. Will be changing for sure. But I’d like to get any advice on above just so I don’t assume it’s only the centre bearing causing the shudder at take off.

I noticed that too. Not sure if that would cause issues but it might...

Those indentations are also a bit suspect since OE Sachs doesn’t have any sort of indentation on the pressure plate. Maybe it’s a performance stage 1?

Had a closer look at pressure plate for marking etc and can see engraved “Stg 2”. Guess it’s a performance clutch...

It looks like someone's been racing your vert (or break in was not done properly before sending it) and there are glazings and hotspots on both flywheel and pp. Part of the reason that engagements are not smooth is that hotspots create a somewhat non-uniform surface with different characteristics and some areas slip more while others grab more (some wear, some with clutch disc material turn-in, etc). I would probably suggest replacing both. Luk flywheels are a few hundred $. SAC clutch kits are also a few hundred.
                Youtube DIYs and more

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

Any advice on how to reset the pressure plate?
