Need help. Installed schrick cams and beisan seals kit on vanos mechanical part, solenoid pack is untouched. Currently having an issue with exhaus cam. In tool32 vanos test- intake is ok (-1 to 59), exhaust is always in different positions (from -8 to 30 grads starting position, from 33 to 40 grads), so exhaust cam is not reaching target position and not reaching 48 working range. Car is running normal, no codes in ECU memory. What should i do in step by step? First of all- change solenoid pack? Or it could be mechanical issue of wrong timing/rebuilding vanos? No one has encountered a similar situation where the solenoid module does not work but no errors in ECU?

On one test i saw -8 to 40 working range but it was one of 15. First of all i thought that it could be vanos pressure issue- when i started full test- intake always ok- exhaust cam- low pressure in vanos and it couldnt go to right range- but then i started to test only exhaust cam and results were very different and i think that low pressure is not a problem that i have. Exhaust cam was floating and never shown stable starting and retarding range. More the actual. I wonder if it provides good signal. Sudden "jumps" could be the result of trigger wheel or sensor damage.Originally posted by BMWfanz View Post

I also now think of something else, you installed Schrick cams. Did you check if the non-return valves were installed before installation? #11 in the picture below. Sometimes these are not installed from factory.

I've checked #11 valves because that was the one of main reasons that i've bought schrick cams istead of catcams- valves are on cams 100%Originally posted by Tomba View Post

Tune is 0401 terra bin + HTE tune. I have a big overlap on low rpms- that was indicated when we were tuning my car- but we thought it was exhaust setup issue. Now i think that something is wrong in hardware of engine. Cam trigger wheel has only one position- i think it could not be the reason of such failure.. will try to find exhaust cam position sensor for check to, but no error codes at all seems strangeOriginally posted by eacmen View PostSince its new cams I would suspect something with the trigger wheel or cam position sensor. Timed with special tool- started engine- good idle- no codes- thought all is ok. Doubts has surfaced after dyno and big overlap on low rpms- so done vanos test in tool32- and here we now.Originally posted by sapote View Post

The special bridge tool is only good if the vanos pistons are known to be at their max forward position -- touching the vanos front caps. If not, then the timing is still wrong even if the bridge pin slides in the cam hole.Originally posted by BMWfanz View Post

Will run with testo logger on weekends and evaluate exhaust cam position, will post results later. Then will go for retiming procedure, if no result- will change solenoid pack.Originally posted by sapote View Post
