I am embossed about a new creaking noise that occasionally happens with my 2005 e46 M3 which has 90K miles. It seems to come from the front of the car. What is likely causing this?

Check your front control arm bushings first. If you have aftermarket coil overs, check your caster/camber plates and the bearings.
Check the torque on your shock tower nuts.
Check your front sway bar to see if it is properly lubricated.
Raise the car and “push and pull” on the wheel to look for it play in the bushings around the knuckle, and also to check your wheel bearings
Check your shock tower mounts for evidence of mushrooming.
Make sure there is adequate clearance between your wheels and your suspension.
Look for leaking struts.
Look at your engine mounts.
When does it creak? Does it creak while turning, over bumps etc. Stand outside the car and push down on the fenders on each side to try to locate the source.
It's probably your front control arm bushings. Our cars beat them up pretty bad.
I would narrow that down first. Does it occur under braking? The typical chassis fatigue in the front of our cars is mushroomed shock towers. If the car was in an accident, you may need to chase the rabbit down the hole. There are about 1000 other things to check, but I would just start with your FCABS.
