    Regrinding Stock Cams to CSL Specifications.

    Since we have the benefit of adjusting the lash, i think the s54 can benefit with regrind camshafts.

    Randomly browsing, came upon a very well know company here in Germany DBilas that seems to offer such service.

    We know the CSL has a duration of 263/263, i was wondering if anyone has gone this route rather than the typical shricks or catcams.

    You might as well regrind to 280/272, the CSL cams are so mild it wouldn't be worth the effort.

      Newbie question - How does a 280/272 grind improve performance? What other components are needed to maximize performance potential?

        The Genuine S54 CSL camshaft duration is 268/264
        not 263/263...

        The std S54 duration is 260/260.

        There are 2 types of regrind. Which one are you
        looking at ?

          How would a regrind impact the hardness of the bottom cam lobes? Cause if the impact is not an issue, it would be worth regrinding to use with stock followers in a used engine.

            It's a more aggressive cam profile so with the right supporting mods it will boost midrange and top end. The consensus seems to be that a CSL airbox(or other high flow intake I guess)+oversize long tube headers and oversize exhaust with cams will work together extremely well. The S54 really likes extra air going in and out pretty much.

              Hi,

              I read the OP again and caught the idea as he mentioned
              valve adjustment...

              Re-grinding the base circle is common practice. When the
              base circle is reduced the lash grows. The issue is that the
              cam gains are very little duration but at the nose the cam
              remains the same........and that is why I think done this way
              its garbage and waist of time and money !

              Even if I found them on the street I still will not use them...

              The cam at the base circle does not touch at all.
