    Anyone Have Experience w/Codes P1434 & 5E43

Service Engine light came on so went had a diagnostic done on the car. Below are the results, and hoping someone has had experience with them and the solution is simple.

P1434 Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage Malfunction
    5E43 Steering Angle Sensor Internal

the SES light is likely related to DMTL code. I would try replacing the gas cap with a new one and clear the code to see if it comes back.

Steering angle sensor issue will cause DSC lights/issues. Must be intermittent failure. You can log live data from the DSC module to see if steering angle sensor is working.

I was getting a DMTL code a year ago or so, and that was after I put a new gas cap on due to the old one breaking. So, I was also having problems with splash back during fill up at stations where the nozzle seals up against the filler neck (basically in my area, that's Costco--everywhere else I go is the old school style). BTW--I was just in San Diego and DAMN do you Cali guys have the most complicated filing hose and nozzle I've ever seen. Damn. Anyway, I ended up replacing the entire charcoal canister, leak pump, the filter line on the canister and the evap purge valve. No more splash back, and no more DMTL codes.

So--if I were you, I'd do the gas cap, then the leak pump (easy) if the code remains. The charcoal can isn't cheap, and you have assemble it with all the pieces, but it's straightforward and may help avoid issues in the future. If it has been flooded, it's likely toast and given the age of these cars, if you are sensitive to emissions, might not be a bad idea to replace--drop the entire thing, leak pump and all. Depends how much you want to spend I guess.
