How do I tell if the 'Track Mode' button on my Competition is actually....working?

Hey everyone,

The previous owner of my 05 Competition put the buttons from a standard M3 on the steering wheel, presumably just for convenience. I don't really use steering wheel buttons, so I grabbed a factory Competition upper steering wheel trim to put on it, with the single "I/O" button. The existing wiring plugged right in, easy 10 minute install.

Installed, it looks nice and the button lights up with the parking lights so I know it's getting power....but how do I tell if it's actually working and if the track mode is enabled? Is there a light that comes on?

If you push the button and no stupid yellow arrow appears on the lower left side of the cluster, it's probably relocated to the button at the end of your right wiper stalk.

Just tried it out, and indeed the button at the end of the wiper stalk activates the yellow arrow light. Is there a way to swap it back to “Normal” via PASOFT or another software? Or is this a de-pin/re-pin a connector type of thing?

RESOLVED.

I noticed that there was a wire in pin 10 of the E39 M5 wiper stalk that just kinda looked 'out of place.' And there was a blue wire pinned into spot 8 of the green connector under the steering wheel that controls the wheel buttons. It looks like that blue wire is for cruise control. Obviously don't need that with the Competition upper.

So, I de-pinned the wire from spot 10 in the wiper stalk connector, and pinned it into slot 8 of the steering wheel control connector, and now the track mode button works perfectly! Job done!
