    Windshield Washer Pump Stopped Working

My windshield washer pump stopped working. Removed the fender lining to expose it and hit it while it was trying to run.

Now it works but am I on borrowed time and should just buy another one?

These pumps were not well designed and have only a couple years life. On my non-M cars, I ended up replaced them with a Toyota pump (made by Denso) and they last a long time -- not fail yet.

The weak link of bmw pumps: the shaft seal leaks and water got into the motor brushes area, corroded and kills it.

You can also buy a mono pump from any VW model. That's what I use in mine. You may have to switch the pins in the connector to get the motor rotating in the proper direction.

Advice: do not buy a pump for the current bmw models. They have a higher pressure working point than our old pumps and may blow off your hose...

Replaced the pump today and everything is working great.
The old pump was covered in this goo that I am not sure what it was.
