EML and DSC dash lights... possible cause?

Car has not been started in a month, battery is not even a year old and has been on trickle charge.

Turned her on yesterday, fired up normally, but was presented with EML and DSC lights... I did not proceed any further.

Previous to this car was running perfectly; I did have some work done, bearings and associated parts, but the car has seen over 500 kms (310 miles) since then.

What could be the issue here?

Best thing to do would be to read codes with INPA

Will definitely be doing this in the next few days; I just wanted to hear from people who have experienced this sequence before and what fixed the issue for them.

EML would suggest something with the throttle system. DSC depends on the DBW system working properly to exert some of its control, so you're probably looking at a TPS or throttle actuator issue.

I had this same issue and it was the throttle position sensor. There’s one on the pedal, one on the actuator, and one under the hood near the airbox which is really easy to change. Unfortunately for my case I had to replace the actuator + TPS but after that problem never was back

So, the car started fine, idled perfectly; but was in limp mode.

Managed to drive to my ex-BMW mechanic, plug in his laptop, clears the codes, all is well again.

His conclusion was something to do with my battery.

Battery was only a year old, 77Ah/780 CCA, but was smaller dimensions compared to stock.. I now have a Bosch ST Hightec AGM LN5 - 95Ah/850CCA.

My only thought could be a power surge whilst charging could have spiked something... any other ideas?
