Replace Seatbelt Webbing?

My current driver seatbelt webbing is all frayed and fluffy. Needs to be replaced. Anyone DIY the replacement of the seatbelt webbing only? It functions fine and I would like to reuse all the existing hardware. I found this online and I thought it might be a replacement and cosmetic upgrade to use this webbing...


I tried to search for some replacement videos and it looks like a pain in the ass to remove the panels and generally they replace the whole assembly, where as I'm hoping to reuse the original parts and just replace the webbing. The kit comes with the threading and stoppers, etc. Any ideas or thoughts on this? Thank you.

Removing the pillar covers isn't that big of a job, nor is replacing the entire mechanism . I have no idea what would be involved in replacing the webbing without replacing the mechanism. That said, I would do a deep dive into who makes that webbing and where they have it manufactured before I entrusted my life into it (and if the answer is China I'd drop the idea immediately).

You're very right about that! China or not, I don't think I should be buying from an unknown supplier for safety equipment.

Check out Safetyrestore.com. They did a rewebbing of my brother seat belts in his Z4 M Coupe to yellow. I think it was only $75 per belt and that included the new webbing. They would probably do it cheaper if you supplied the webbing.

I ordered my E36 replacement belts in red from a company in Bulgaria off of ebay. They were "re-manufactured" in that they use existing mechanisms with new webbing. I'm happy with how they turned out. The only thing I noticed was that my stock belts had "US/AUS" on them and these appeared to be euro mechanisms. On the E36, I'm not sure that it matters but something to keep in mind on an E46 as the safety systems are much more advanced.

The new belts make a dramatic difference to the interior for a relatively small amount of money.
