    Suspension Refresh and Preload

I’m starting a complete front and partial rear suspension refresh in the next week or two. I’ve read so much conflicting information about preload in regards to different components being installed:

    Front:
New Complete Control arms and LCAB
    Tie rods
    End links
    Hotchkiss front sway bar
    Koni Yellow with stock springs
    new bolts/nuts

    Rear:
    Koni Yellow with stock springs
    RTABs Monoball (SDW)

I’m by no means a suspension expert. What components, need to be loaded for tightening and torque? Can this truly even be done effectively ? Seems like ball joints and monoballs it’s not necessary,

The car has 50k and is an 04. It’s street car minimal to no track time, just big mountain drives.

Any bushings that twist with travel. That's most bushings in the rear. I don't think anything up from has to be preloaded. Rear shocks are torqued at ride height. I also loosen that bolt a full turn after lowering to allow the bushing to have no load before tightening.

If you don't do this, when you lower the car, the bushings will twist as the suspension is pushed up. They be under constant load while the car is at ride height if this is done wrong.

Measure the ride height the Porsche way, from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender. Put a jack under the suspension while the car is on jack stands and match that measurement. Be safe about because jacks can slip off the suspension rather easily. Maybe wood or something to help

Only rubber bushings like rtab, rear shock bottom mount, inner rear arms attachment (outer are balljoints). Fcabs have a particular orientation. Then deform a bit when installed I think. Which is on purpose.

Thank you all for the info. Makes sense. So if the RTABS are monoballs still preload at ride height with Jack?

Bearings do not need to be preloaded at ride height.

For example the only part of the suspension that I need to torque at ride height is the rear upper inner control arm bushing. All the rest are bearings, cuz racecar.
