So my car has been out of commission for a while with this intermittent limp mode issue. It isn't a speed issue or RPM issue as I can still 100+ mph and still rev the car out, as long as I'm not flooring it. As soon as I floor it from any speed/gear the car immediately goes into limp mode with Check Engine, EML, DSC, and brake light.
When it first happened I scanned the car with my Carly App and got codes for wheel speed sensors so I changed those out. Then it started giving me a generic DSC code so I had it diagnosed at a shop. Their diagnosis was that my throttle position sensors were failing and not communicating with each other. Changed both of those with brand new OE sensors and still getting limp mode under hard throttle.
What I've done so far:
- Wheel Speed Sensors (Fronts, didn't change the one in the rear now that I'm thinking about it)
- Throttle Position Sensors (Front and the one on the plenum)
- Verified that throttle link between ITBs and actuator opens and shuts ITBs.
- Cleaned ITB's
- About to clean out the MAF and report back
Beyond that, I'm pretty much at a loss. Could it be that my throttle actuator itself is going out? I know that isn't as common on these as the E6x and E9x M's but my car is nearing 20 years and 180k so it wouldn't be crazy right?
