There's a firmware patch for that. I'll dig up the link later and share.

Literally because of this thread, I decided to finally order a BMW business replacement radio (961-216 model). Used of course, but in great shape. My current radio's volume knob is jacked up.

I don't daily my M, so no use for carplay, etc. just going to keep using the factory radio and GROM unit for music LOL.
The OEM radio plus a bluebus is really a great solution as long as you don’t care about navigation or CarPlay. I personally think it’s the best looking option.

I assume one company is making/selling the screen/facia, and other companies are buying that and adding their own electronics.

Just installed an Avin Avant 4 and so far so good. No issues and install was straight forward and came with all the extra bits. Let me know if any specific questions. Pricey but its super fast boot up and shutdown and the equalizer is great with the bav sound system installed at the same time.

I mean on the xtrons unit. In any case, I mean the analog dimming function with the dimming dial on the LCM- not the binary dimming function based on the headlight signal

Also I confirmed today that you can turn off the display and listen to music. See settings below, in this example I've set the left dial to be short press to turn display on/off and long press to turn unit on/off

No idea how the Bremmen unit stands.

Your factory headunit died or an aftermarket one that you currently have installed?

I went with the full carphonics retrofit package. (My car is a non-nav, non-hk, car.) I plan on pulling out my AVIN 4 and selling it once I get all the carphonics stuff installed.

I have the Avin head unit, I think it fits into the console better than any other units. I also have a rockstone fosgate amp. It's all tied together with a 10" alpine subwoofer and bavsound speakers. It's really good, the sound quality is very strong and clear at every level. Though its about $2000 to get to there...
