Recently had a catastrophic water pump failure, working on getting it cleaned up and repaired. I’ve found some old forum posts on other sites talking about it, thought I’d ask here for some current opinions.
Had the bearing fail and blow apart. After tear down I found that the plastic impeller also decided to blow apart.
I’ve found most of the impeller plastic but am still missing ~2.5 fins from what I can piece together. I’ve tried using a garden hose to force a flush for a few minutes in either direction of the block (top down first) as well as the radiator. Nothing came out during that process. Is there anything else that can be done? I have a buddy who will lend his camera to scope either end of the radiator to check for blocks. After inspecting that would it be fine to go with a new pump and accompanying cooling system parts or is this going to require more tear down? The missing plastic is going to be a worry for me I feel.
