A few of you know that I pretty much stopped driving entirely when my fiance moved in a few years ago (and her dumb Audi ended up with the first spot in the driveway and blocked me in). I've had several cars end up with massive amounts of issues due to inactivity. (PSA: drive your cars!)
A random bolt of inspiration had me finally decide to clear an old hurdle with my convertible - sourcing some Brembo caliper brackets - and finish it up enough to turn the engine over... and a bit to my surprise, it purred like a kitten.
But.... it still sat for four years, and I have noticed a new issue while driving it around the block: if I'm high in 1st or 2nd gear and lift off the accelerator enough to engine brake, I get a scraping/dragging metal sound that is fairly similar to what it'd sound like if a brake rotor was scraping against a bent dust shield, or if I was dragging something under the car on the pavement.
It seems to be more fore than aft, and after nearly 4 years of not driving, nothing at all would surprise me. Transmission issues, clutch/flywheel, etc... but this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, because it actually still shifts fine and there's not a hint of noise whatsoever if I am accelerating or maintaining speed. And as much as it sounds like brake scraping issues, it isn't that either; braking is fine, even though I haven't actually driven it fast enough to properly bed the pads yet.
I have a friend coming by later that'll allow me to do some observation that isn't from me in the driver's seat, but just curious... anyone have any ideas on what it might be?
