So I got the r134a Shrader valve core kit and the Mastercool 58490 valve core remover/installer kit. Im suspecting a slow leak on my high pressure service port. The Mastercool kit is the one that you can use to pull the valve cores and replace it without removing the refrigerant in the system.
It took a few tries. At first i could unscrew the valve, but it woudnt't come up through the kit as the tool wouldnt grab it. So I screwed the shrader valve back into place. This happened a total of 5-6 times.
I after tightening up the tool a bit, i managed to grab the shrader valve after being unscrewed under pressure (a little scary). I was able to undo the valve and pull it up through the tool, but of course my luck, the high side valve core is too long, and when you go to use the shut off ball valve, the shrader valve is too long will not clear the ball valve and allow it to close.
This is the step im talking about
So I had to just give up and screw the old high side shrader valve into place. Im worried the ball valve closing and hitting the seal of the old shrader valve might not make it happy.
Quite frustrating, after 5-6 total tries unscrewing the shrader valve on the high side and screwing it back in after failed attempts. I realize the Mastercool kit just wont work with the high side service port on our cars. The shrader valve is too long and the space between the grabber tool and the ball valve is too short.
Has anyone ever successfully used a shrader valve remover kit with the e46? Is there another brand of tool that works?
