ECU / DME cooling fan. TL;DR: stick with the OE.

If someone has a better way of posting the videos, please do so, or contact me I can send you the originals for you to post.

    1) OE first, then Sun Nation replacement motor:

    2) Decibel readings. ~42 dB ambient, OE ~52 dB, Sun Nation ~70-72 dB:

The cheap Sun Nation motor offered by FCP (link) is just too loud. It was noticeable upon start up where the ECU fan would energize for about 5 seconds before shutting off, and the motor buzzing was really noticeable when idling after a long drive or when it was hot enough for it turn on.

I ended up cleaning the old motor with Lectra-Motive and then a drop or two of silicon lube. We'll see how long before the chirping / crickets noise comes back (I'm thinking 3-6 months). At which point will just get a OE replacement.

I think the OE motor is the Johnson HC315-101 (spec sheet attached). OE motor does say "Johnson" on it. The Sun Nation and the OE are dimensionally equal, just the post on the Sun Nation where the fan attaches is longer.

I was able to buy the same motor direct from Sun Nation for about $6, rather than the $30 FCP was charging.

Edit: perhaps someone can find a distributor in the US for them. I did see an Alibaba link selling for ~$16 each for quantities 1-10, but I don't trust Alibaba.

Just wanna say I have the same experience with a Aliexpress motor. Works and pushes good air but louder than OEM. Interested in a cheaper an OEM solution too.
