    Redline 15W50 for Track Day?

As I was updating my maintenance log tonight I realized I changed my oil with Redline 15w50 instead of Redline 10w60. I have a hot (90F and high humidity usually) July track day scheduled. Does anyone feel strongly that I should change to Redline 10w60 before the track day?

im leaning towards dumping this 400 mile old oil and getting the 10w60 in. This thread is probably mostly pointless

Unless you wanna be a guinea pig you should probably swap out oil. Oil temps already get high enough as it is with ten sixty on the track.

Yeah, I figured I’d check just in case someone had amazing success running endurance races in the desert on 15w50. When it was 75 degrees outside the oil temperatures were on the happy side of the temperature limit but not by a great margin, I believe I was running right around 240 F

Send it. Castrol 10w60 is basically a 40 weight anyway.

It starts as a 60 and sheers to a 50 almost immediately, where it stays for a long time.

                  5w90 ftw

                  EDIT: I'm being sarcastic....

Double EDIT: I'd swap the oil out for track duty. It's also the additives not just the weight.

I’ve been running the redline 15w50 in my DE car for the last 3 years. Roughly 3-4 weekends a year. We see pretty hot temps at VIR in the summer and early fall. Oil analysis has been consistent.

Bimmerworld recommends Red Line 50wt racing (which is 15w50) for track S54s FWIW.
