I heard that. Haven’t finished it but so far it’s a good one.

Would be cool to see it hit E30 M3 levels. Market is kinda weird atm as I’ve been trying to sell mine and people seem to think it’s a 17-19k car with the big three being done! lol

intended on selling and picking up an R32 GTR but I may just hold and continue building it along side the R32.

As somebody who just sold my "secondary" E46 M3, I'd recommend holding onto it - I think these cars (along with their parts) are going to continue to rise. The argument against them having a huge rise is the sheer volume of production, but finding clean, well taken care of examples will continue to become more of a challenge as time goes on.

All that said, having the values continue to tick up is great but will likely never outpace a traditional investment, especially when you consider running costs, maintenance, insurance, etc. - the real value is driving them or enjoying them as you see fit.

It should never hit e30 price. 1. Four times as many produced + 2. not nearly as legendary in racing = not as special a car.

Nor do I think it being mentioned here will make many, if any, people go buy them. Cool shout out from people who can drive anything they want though.

Maybe Joe isn’t wrong about this. But think about everything else he’s chimed in on over the last few years before placing too much value on a plug from him, on anything.

I have no doubt that it will with one caveat. Its in great shape. One with the interior in great shape is almost a unicorn.

I 100% agree on what you’ve said here. Mainly about the real prize being driving them! I bought mine with pretty low miles and watched BAT like the stock market while mine sat for a good year and a half. After that I said screw it and turned it to a daily while maintaining it. I’ve also been given advice to just hold and I might just do so.

Valid points. I’m currently storing my uncles E30 M3 in my garage and am always fascinated when I see it in there just for the sheer fact that I’ve only seen 1 other road going one, and at a classic bmw meet at that. Here’s to hoping he sells it to me so I can build it back up to its potential! Haha

I’ve personally always thought e46 m3 was peak m3. Maybe I’m a bit biased as 1. I’m an owner now and 2. I’ve wanted one of these since I was in my 20’s (and finally bought one 20+ years later) . But e46 m3 will at some point over the next 15-25 years hit a point where they’ll be $50k+ cars.

I attend Barrett Jackson every other year and the guys you see are the 60s+ crowd who wanted a specific car in their 20’s/30’s but were not able to get it then. I think this car will reach that at some point as the enthusiast crowd ages and comes into money. Maybe not outrageous e30 m3 values, but clean low mileage ones, maybe the zcp variants as those tend to fetch higher prices, could be a consistent $100k car for sure because as time passes, there will be less and less clean examples available.

Ultimately, everything I said could be horseshit. Only time will tell and we have a long ways to go, so enjoy the piss out of these cars, gents.

I agree with it being peak as in performance vs maintenance. It's easy to work on, decently reliable compared to the newer ones. The s52 was reliable but a dog (imo). This is a true m.engine before they got super complex.

The S65 isn't much more complex than the S54, just a total PIA to so the same task because its a V8. I'd argue the S65 a little less maintenance intensive since there are no valve adjustments and doesn't have the complex VANOS issues. There are other relative simple to fix issues...they just cost a lot more.

I've thought about whording S54s...with all of the swaps going on I think motors are going to be $$$ in the future. Since 2016-2019, these motors have gone from about $2500-$3000 to about $4000 for a motor in similar condition.
