    SPAL e-fan PWM-V3 question

    Hey Fellas,

So I'm not well versed on e-fans, but I purchased the below SPAL/shroud/controller setup. The questions i have are:

    1. Can i just replace the clutch fan and retain the aux fan to use in combination with this SPAL?

    2. Will retaining the aux fan hurt the SPAL's efficiency/functionality in any way?

    3. Is there a link or install directions that show how to wire up both?

    4. I've read something about a temperature sensor... do I need that for this setup? If I do, can someone provide a link for purchase?

    Thanks so much!

    1. Yes, no issues on that. I ran an electric fan in combination with the stock aux fan for a few years until I ditched climate control.

    2. Not really, the aux fan pushes air and the soak fan will pull air.

3&4. There's different concepts on how to wire. Some people use an external control device that requires an additional sensor. You can also just splice into the aux fan control in the stock ECU. If you use that as the ground for a relais control circuit, it will activate based on internal cooling temperature, same as aux fan.

      Thanks for your reply!!!

So because I have the external controller, I would need a temp sensor so it can run off of?

If so, do this mean the aux runs as is (off internal temp) and the SPAL runs off of the external sensor?

Also, what power source do you use for the SPAL? I know it should be tapped into a line that powers on when the car does?

If you want to use this controller then yes. Although I prefer to get temp readings from the sensors close to the engine rather than connecting an extra one to the piping.

I connected mine to an ignition power source. I don't want it draining the battery when the car not running. But this is up to you. It's also important to have a fuse in the power source. You can use an empty slot in the passenger side fuse box or just use the positive source in the engine and an extra fuse.

Understood. What power source did you tap into? I'm drawing a blank, as I too don't want to drain the battery?

I had an open slot in the small fuse box in the ECU compartment, but if you didn't make changes to the engine management, that won't work for you as it's all used in stock form.
