    It depends. The yield strength on the carbon can be significantly higher than steel and aluminum. Layup of the carbon and different cloths can double the strength. I'd guess that the door panel would contain a lot of the debris. No real way of knowing without testing or a lot of engineering.

    That said, I personally would only install carbon doors on a caged track car where I wear a helmet with the visor down.

    The crash bar is threaded, and the anchor bolts directly to the bar, not the door. the door itself only contributes a mounting hole that orientates the bar.

    considering when the door is closed that the anchor point is only millimeters away from the grab point of the chassis, imo I don't think the door skin is contributing anything meaningful structurally in an accident


    Fwiw I sold my doors to a guy with a dedicated track car, he bought them because he was told that you can strip a door to kingdom come as long as you keep the crash bar. As soon as you stop using it is when they make you run door bars/roll cage.

    We make the moulds from high-quality shrink-resistant resin and they have special inserts for aligning the two sides of the doors. Therefore, when we glue carbon doors, we can guarantee that the doors will have the same geometry as the original door.
    We also scan some parts, but this is more for modeling and not for control.

    Standing by - M3 touring conversion here

    After producing first articles of doors with frames, do you scan the parts with a professional 3D scanner, or fit them to some master measurement device to ensure that they retain the OEM shape? Or is the frame rigid enough that they just pop from the mold and fit perfectly? Thanks

    Theoretically possible, but to start such a project we need at least five clients. There are four doors and the production of molds will be very expensive.
    Also keep in mind that due to the glass frame, such doors will be a little more expensive than for a coupe.

    sold my car so unfortunately was not able to finish this project Complete stock reproduction carbon fiber doors by Carbon Fiber Microsystem - asking $2100 picked up quick rundown: - full OE replica door but in CF, everything transfers over - approximately 60lbs weight savings - factory crash bar can be used my


    i'll leave this thread with some information i dug up on on how the crash bar works


    it seems like the door itself does not do much in terms of protection in an accident. the crash bar however, is designed to hook onto the B pillar (or C pillar in a 4door) to prevent intrusion into the vehicle.

    this is the hook, it bolts directly to the crash bar inside the door, the door simply acts as a placement spot for it to work properly in a crash since the hook will dig into a pocket/indentation in the B/C pillar


    i'm a little surprised that flimsy looking crash bar is designed to actually hold anything back, but obviously bmw engineers think (and know) different.


    i would definitely run the crash bar in a street driven car
