    SSK recommendations (Autosolutions?)

I want to get an SSK for my car and wanted some input on which to get both brand and type. I’m leaning towards Autosolutions as I’ve heard they are the “best” but am open to other options.

I’m looking for better feel over shorter throws (S2k transmission is my favorite feel). I will be doing 95% street driving and maybe autox from time to time and perhaps a track day.

As someone who has an AS SSK in every car they have, and someone who's driven a lot of S2K's over the years let me give you my 2 cents.

No matter what SSK you slap on the 420G, this thing ain't shifting like an S2K.

    Not even close.

That being said, a refresh of bushings, with an AS SSK could make it dramatically better.

To get closer to S2K feel, I would suggest a 25% kit with the Autocross setup. That will give you a reduced throw without as much effort as the standard/Ultra kits.

    For reference, I have the 45%, 40%, 35%, 30%, and a 25% kits.

Each one feels different in every car but there is increased effort as you go shorter. I use a stock broomstick in all my cars except my X5 which runs a OE Golfball on an extension.

    Hope this helps.

Someone is selling an AS kit right now in the forum FS selection for half price. Snag it!

Yeah that 20% AS Ultra SSK came off my blue M3, and it’s really nice. Seller is(was?) also selling a new AS Autocross SSK as well, and if you can grab that instead I’d highly recommend it over the Ultra. Comparing it directly to the 20% Ultra, the 25% AutoX feels even more precise and actually has that bolt action rifle feel.

I have the autocross 25% and its leagues better than the rogue octane i had before.

On a side note, is there a chassis mounted shifter that helps with the dreaded 3/2 shift while there is slight lateral load on the chassis/transmission. I like the Coolerworkx carbon option, wondering if there's anyone that has some input on this.

You can look into the Saltgrain SSK. It's chassis mounted and it allows the use of the stock knob and looks very slick.

CAE. Pretty sure it is still considered to be the best chassis mounted shifter for the E46.

I have a RTD mini and the 3/2 downshift under lateral load is difficult.

Any chassis mounted shifter should have solid engine and transmission mounts to go along with it. Ive had the CAE and solid mounts and never had an issue with this.

Honestly, the Dinan short shift is better than you would think.

I've put Coolerworx in some ZF5 cars and really like it.

Hadn't seen this one before, have you run it or driven a car with it?

I have had both the AS SSK and the RE Octane SSK too and didn't think there was much in it between the two, they are both excellent.

Drove with a 30% AS SSK for 12 years, loved every minute of it. Enjoy the install if you're DIYing it 😂
