Bavarian Auto Spares (https://www.BavarianAutoSpares.com) in Rancho Cordova, CA is a complete scam. Just tried to buy a set of used throttle bodies using Pay Pal.

They wanted “Family and Friends” payment which leaves the buyer with no protection. I grossed the payment up by more than Pay Pal’s maximum 3.49% fee so I was covered for the purchase. They immediately said my order would be cancelled and would refund my payment.

A second e-mail from them after I noted I wouldn’t pay with “Family and Friends”: “I understand your need for security. However, using PayPal’s ‘friends and family’ option works best for us, and if there are any issues with delivery, we will promptly refund you through the same method.”

Now, as expected “We can’t refund your money from our account” e-mail has forced me to open a case with Pay Pal.

Fellow BMW guy, Mark in Rancho Cordova, went by the address listed for Bavarian Auto Spares and it’s an empty shop being used by the true owner for storage. The owner of the shop address has a legitimate business across the street and noted to Mark that at least four people have come by to pick up parts only to find it’s a scam.

Why, didn't you walk away after he insisted on only taking family and friends payment? There is always something fishy when a seller will not accept a general goods and purchase payment with the buyer paying 3% PP fees.


Then again, the scam works both ways, the buyer can always file a fraudulent buyer claim saying the item was not as described or received the wrong item. It also becomes an issue if your dealing with a picky buyer that has buyer remorse after or was expecting something in better condition.

Selling and buying online has just become a massive pain in the @$$.

I just checked their site. It looks like a scam site, all their parts are listed super cheap. It a major red flag on the scam sites to attract buyers to send them payments and not worry about covering themselves in fear of losing out on a great deal.

Not to mention everything is in stock, prices are too good to be true, and they don't accept credit cards.

I feel bad for you OP, but this couldn't have been any more obvious.

Any parts place with the name "Spares" etc on it is usually a scam.
