    BE Bearings

It seems like there had been rumors of a bad batch of these at some point. Does anyone have more info and has anyone used these lately? The new part number is the F not the HK bearing according to some sites.

Probably more of a controversy on S65 and S85 engines.

I'm not aware that there was nearly the level of research and testing on the S54 bearings as there was on the S65 bearings. The S65 part was tested on a disassembled engine where the multiple rods and cranks were checked and measured. There's a really long thread on M3Post on it. I'm not aware that same guy ever did much with an S54.

I would think his work carries over to the S85 since they are mostly the same engine design. I don't think the same logic applies to the S54.

Either way, OE bearings are a known quantity which is why I stick with OEM on the S54.

On my S65, I'll also stay with OE bearings because the oil pan gasket is going to leak after 50k - 70k miles anyway,

Thanks, yeah I agree the stock bearings are fine on S54. BE has good results on S65/S85 and the material is simply superior to the old OE in terms of load capacity, plus slightly cheaper... but your point about the testing is good and there was a least one report of a "bad batch", which gives me pause.
