Anyone running a Cometic head gasket on their S54

Are Cometic head gaskets better than the OEM S54 head gasket in terms or sealing ability?

I'm running one in my engine.
Sealing ability is fine, I have no issues with it so far. Although it's only been in for 5k km since the rebuild so it's not exactly a long term yet.

I mainly put it in since they have thicker versions. Due to a ground down head, I needed it to bring compression back down to 12,5:1.

My OEM lasted for 200k km without issues, so I don't exactly see a problem there...

The Cometic gasket is three to four times as much as the factory Elring gasket. Unless you skimmed the cylinder head and/or block beyond the minimum amount, stay with factory gasket IMO.

Thanks All, i am just trying to find the possible reason behind the faults below and wondered what they may indicate, fault wise?

196 Cylinder 1 misfire with cylinder deactivation
197 Cylinder 2 misfire with cylinder deactivation
204 Misfire several cylinders with cylinder deactivation

205 Cylinder 1 misfire without cylinder deactivation
206 Cylinder 2 misfire without cylinder deactivation
213 Misfiring of several cylinders without cylinder deactivation

First thing to try is to move coil packs around and see if the codes follow. Then spark plugs.

If the engine is higher mileage, you should do a compression test. Make sure ALL the spark plugs are out when you do this this test.

Even better is a leak down test as that will charge the cylinder with pressurized air, and if there is a break in the head gasket, you will hear air escaping through the adjacent cylinder/s.

You might not be at this point yet...one possibility is a bad ECU. I had a cyl 6 misfire that wouldn't go away. I literally just picked up a head from the machine shop to sell online. I said f'it...threw a new head gasket and the rebuilt head on. Still had an issue. Had to measure the resistance across the ignition coil harness and then test the harness. Coded a used ECU, swapped it in...misfire was gone!
