    Battery was also lighter, muffler was also lighter, backglass was thinner.

            That's correct, the boot floor/rear axle carrier is the same as the M3 & suffers with the same cracking issues. On my car the whole panel was replaced by BMW in 2013. The actual panel that you lift to access the the tyre inflator is some sort of honeycomb/paper construction. More detail here:
