    Oil Temperature

Looking at the users manual it says the the oil temperature is usually between 80°C and 120°C, however my car reaches the first 75°C dot and just stays there regardless of how its driven.

It does raise from cold with the coolant temperature, but just never gets higher than that marker. Coolant temp rises and sits just off centre to the left which from what I can tell is fine.

I have had a new oil filter housing fitted suspecting that the oil thermostat was stuck open, but this made zero difference.

Just feels weird that even if I drive harder / longer than usual it still never even reaches the 80°C - 120°C normal range...

Is it possible the temp sensor in the oil level sensor is just under reporting? Although the car does drive fine, is this temperature used elsewhere by the DME for engine stuff? I know the technical documents mention oil temp being used for VANOS solenoid control, but how much of a difference that actually makes I don't know.

    .
    what is the ambient temperature?

Coolant temperature to the left of the gauge center means not hot enough, and this is why oil temperature is also low.
use inpa or OBD to read the temperature for more precise.

Thermostat opens at 83° so the coolant ist somewhere around 11 o'clock on fresh ambient temperatures. so that sounds normal an okay. even if the thermostat is stuck open the oil temp should rise. the oil level sensors are failing a lot so yeah try to change that. did you read your codes? sometimes it throws a code. and buy one from hella.
