    Painted Gold valve cover

    Hey Fellas,

I want to paint my valve cover gold (the aluminum cover, not the plastic beauty piece), but im not sure which paint to use. I thought there was a thread here a while back on soneone doing it, but i cant seem to find it.

Has anyone done this and can provide details so I can purchase the paint?

    TIA!!!

You should consider Cerakote or powdercoat.

I'd suggest getting it blasted for paint to successfully adhere and if you go that far, may as well powdercoat it. I've had a SR20 cover powdercoated chrome that looked and held up very well.

Are you planning to ditch the beauty cover?

Are you painting gold for the look or are you using it for its heat reflective properties?

Not literal gold... more like a copper type of color.
Keeping the beauty cover, just wanna have the pop of color along the rim if that makes sense.

You're talking about stash1 I'm pretty sure. When I was doing my headgasket he had posted in my thread. Very eye catching and memorable.

His engine is badass though so it works, mine would have been stock with a colored head.

This is exactly it, thank you!! Do you have the link or know what paint he used?

Yeah, I have a FB engine as well... but this is what I was thinking. You're awesome!!

No problem, this was my thread,

Engine has 80k miles on it, I've replaced all the spark plugs, coil packs, and valve cover gaskets, screws, etc. with OEM parts. Engine is dead stock, no upgrades. I've had the Vanos upgraded with all Besian parts and saw that it passed the test with flying colors. I'm chasing a misfire, essentially rough starting when

You should message him directly to find out what he used, I'm not sure he posted about that specifically.

Powdercoat is pretty good. Not the most chemical resistant but good. Gotta be careful if they put it on too thick it can prevent things from fitting properly. Masking is critical. Cost is low for powdercoating.

Cerakote or Gunkote are both fully resistant to brake fluid, gas, oil, heat, etc. and go on thinner. It will be more expensive for either of these.
