Front Right Brake Hose weak point?

    2006 zcp M3
Yesterday I was under the engine to loosen the two torx screws holding the rad fan shroud, and saw the FR brake hose grommet loose from the strut hook, allow the hose rubbing against the strut. This could lead to a dangerous situation with sudden lost of brake pressure. I used an electrical wire to secure the brake hose to the strut bracket and not rely on the grommet alone.
I think the M3 hose grommet is slightly under size compared to non-M which is more harder to get the grommet off (or the design of the bracket half-circle hook with smaller opening). I think the M3 hose is smaller than the non-M but I don't know if mine is BMW brand or other makers, but I don't think the original brake hoses were replaced. My ZCP hoses have the silver color braid outer layer and not black rubber. Could the ZCP brake caliper has different hose than standard cars?

Btw, I don't like to do more works of jack up the car, remove the bottom engine tray in order to remove the two bottom screws to get the fan shroud out. The non-M fan shroud design is better using two "dove tail latches" at the bottom, so it can be remove without getting under the car. Was anyone able to remove the shroud without working under the car?

My OE (street M3) and aftermarket (Goodridge on track M3) fit firmly in the grommet ring with no movement. No harm in a tie wrap to be sure. Is your brake line OE/OE OD? Is the grommet tight on it? I'd replace any line with any sign of rubbing - lines are cheap and I see them as replacement items.

BTW - keep your grommet if it fits in the hole well. There is no part # for the grommet that I can find (probably because its permanently on after manufacturer crimping). Not all replacement lines come with grommets. You can slice the grommet ring, slip over the new line and put the cut facing the back of the metal hook.

I zip tie these as well. Can't be too careful.

Sounds like an aftermarket hose to me, but I don't have firsthand knowledge of what the ZCP came with.
My Stoptech lines were the same as yours -- the grommet was a bit too small. They actually included some large zipties with the lines, which I passed through the grommet and attached to the bracket.

Never had it come loose. It's very tight in there.
