    Ticking Noise Chase

Hey everyone so I’ve been chasing this Tic ever since I bought this E 46 M3 the head was removed at one point because one of the valves on cylinder six got bent all of the exhaust valves were replaced with supertec valves. Exhaust has been replaced under my ownership, and I replaced the header gasket as well as the headers themselves thinking initially it was due to a small exhaust leak that I had. I had a valve adjustment done by a shop and they also double check the valve adjustment after this noise was heard. I’m not 100% sure what it could be, but I know that it’s related to the head and the noise is coming from cylinder six and cylinder five area. Does anybody have any idea potentially it could be a spring or maybe a follower or the best course of action? The car runs fine and I’ve been driving it very hard when I go to work and haven’t really had anything other than the noise ticking.

If the valve adjustment didn't help, then one of the rocker arms could have a flat spot.

It's quite loud. Could be rod knock and not just valves related.

Any history about the rod bearings? Check oil fitler for metal particles.

Sounds a bit slow for me to be a follower but could be wrong, to know for sure just give it some gas, follower noise should pick up in pace but not in loudness, rod knock would get super loud.

I don’t believe it’s rod knock. The rod bearings have been done. Oil looks great as well. It does get faster and not louder when I rev it up.

it makes the tick it at half the rpm of the engine, and it’s most pronounced on the rear of the head at cylinders 5 and 6. I recorded it in slow motion and counted each tick.

The camshaft rotates at half the speed of the crankshaft
