Hey Gang. I need advice on paintwork / deep scratches / oxidation in my rear quarter window area.
Project - Had the classic eyesore on the upper seal (between the shadowline trim and the window in the hofmiester kink). In my case the weatherstripping underneath the rear side window also needed to be changed. For anyone who hasnt been in there before - I'm referring to this (p/n 51368194741). It runs underneath the rear side window on the exterior. This piece is double-sided taped directly onto the rear quarter panel.
PLOT TWIST - once I got the above linked part off and cleaned off the glue, it was apparent someone had been in there before. They had absolutely massacred the body panel in the space underneath the double sided tape. Either they gave up and never managed to get it off, or just glued the weatherstripping on top of all the scratching. These are deep and have removed paint completely in a handful of spots. Think like a very deep keying. I have a few tiny hints of oxidation visible in the spots closer to the kink where water tends to dwell.
I wanted to treat this area properly in order to make sure the paint is protected before reassembling all the weatherstripping
Thanks in advance.

- How to treat the oxidized spots?
- Touch up stick + toothpick for paint?
- How do I use the clear coat in the touch up kit effectively?
Thanks in advance.
