    Exhaust Question

    Hey guys,

Finally have some time to devote to my car again. I love my car, but I just can't get over the exhaust note, or lack thereof.

Currently have the OEM header, dual ar20 s1, OEM s2 and Eisenmann Sport s3. I am also tuned by Hassan and running the Karbonius Race CSL airbox. I love the top end note from the airbox, but the lack of sound from the exhaust is getting quite boring. YET, I don't want to get catless headers due to SMOG in CA (I'll take off the CSL box when it comes to SMOG time) also because of the smell. I'm also not really into have it SUPER loud, but just some more noise/grumble.

What would be my options? About a year ago, I had the opportunity to trade my Eisenmann exhaust for a Rogue El Diablo with a member on this forum, but didn't happen (super nice guy BTW!).

    LMK your thoughts!

    Julian.

For a factory exhaust, I'd always go DINAN. It has the right tone and volume for street and the design is very good. The fake tips are the only thing I dislike about it (function over form though).

Supersprint sport is another option, but can have mild to moderate drone when going up hills.

      Got it thanks!

Would the new rogue EL section 1 make a difference? Or a straight piped oem section one?

Not sure, I'd use the factory section 1. You said you have a dual AR20, so that would tone down the rasp.

I have a Rogue El Diablo and I love it. Everything else as far as exhaust is stock. Apparently it robs a little bit of power (if that's a concern or top priority to squeeze every last bit of power, that might pull it out of the running)

Good to know! I’m not looking to make a lot of power, just want a bit more drama when I drive my 500 miles per year haha. I made 314whp on CA 91 octane so it’s more than sufficient. With LA traffic and all the good driving roads affected by the fire, can’t even really wring the engine out to its full glory.

I still contest the Eisenmann Race section 3 is my favorite sound from the cockpit… I have Dinan S3 on my LSB and it’s fine, but the Eisenmann Race just amplifies the metallic rasp in a very good way.

I haven't decided between Super Sprint Sport, or the Dinan one. I'm curious about Eisenmann. I also don't want something obnoxious.

Assuming your talking about the Eisenmann Sport since you don't want anything loud. My opinion would be the Dinan being the loudest of those 3 and the SS Sport being the quietest. It's funny the differences. In the E36 world, at least to me the Dinan exhaust is one of the quietest you can get. With E46s its louder than id expect it be.

I gone through a million setups with my E36 (UUC, HKS, AA Race 3" with removable resonator/straight pipe section, etc) and it surprised me how perfect the Rogue on the E46 M3 is just enough sound without being overly loud. That option never existed in E36 world and still doesn't. Either they're so quiet you see a slight change over stock or too loud, in a shitty way.

Again this is my opinion and i know they're different cars and all that.

I too have the Rogue Engineering El Diablo exhaust on my car as well with stock headers, stock section 1, and stock sections 2. The sound is absolutely perfect with no drone on the highway! Honestly did not expect to love it as much as I do. It does drone from 2k - 2.5k rpm which is not bad at all imo and does not bother me. As soon as it goes outside of that range there is no drone. I’m very picky about exhausts and I despise drone. It’s not a sacrifice I’m willing to make since I want to actually enjoy being in the car. That’s my 2 cents here. I also bought some CPI headers recently that I plan on installing along with some HJS cats welded into the section 1. If this setup ends up being too loud, I will probably end up putting in some ar20 resonators as well.

Hmmm maybe getting the 2 ar20 resonators installed were a mistake. I wonder how my system would sound with both removed in order to make a straight piped section 1.

You can find stock section 1s all over fb marketplace for 50-100$. It’s worth picking one up and trying it out imo.

Id get whatever Sec 3 you choose first and try it with your current setup. You might like the sound you wind up with if you get the right muffler. If it bothered me enough at the moment and I didnt' have other stuff I want more, i'd be buying a one of the Sunbeam Section 1s. I like the sound the equal length section 1s seem to make on these cars.
