    Back Window Seal Quality

Has anyone recently purchased a new OEM back window seal? How is the rubber quality?

Got my windows tinted and they opted to remove the rear window to scrape off all the old tint. They replaced the seal with a non-oem seal which I felt did not fit properly. Went back and they were super understanding giving me options on seals to fix it.

The owner mentioned that he does not like the OEM window seals because when he replaced his on his 5 series it melted in the sun and continues to smear whenever he washes the car. He showed it to me and it indeed looks awful. He said he would be happy to use OEM if that's what I wanted though. The other option is a over the top seal similar to the front windshield.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I replaced my rear window seal with new OEM 2~ years ago, looks fine and hasn't degraded or melted.

A lot of E46 owners replace these seals. There would have been a complaint about them by now. Grab a set of OE seals.

Also, removing the window would have been way easier than removing the seal and all the adhesive.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you guys. 👍 Maybe the owner just got a bad batch or the rubber for the f10 is different.

I'll use the OEM seal. It is cheap too it seems at less than $30 on turner.

Always supply your own OE seal.

Lesson learned. Happy the shop was understanding and is redoing it for me.

I just assumed when they reseal windshields and windows they use OE seals, but I guess that is not the case.

Edit: Seems like you might be talking about the rear glass.

If your referring to the backmost quarter glass trim there are some non-OEM options that look great, factory just about. Those seals are only available when you purchase the entire trim piece and those are stupid expensive.

There is a great DIY on here somewhere in regards to that seal, probably in the DIY section. It is not a bad job if you like some mild DIY.

I know its confusing sorry, but I am referring to the back window not rear windows. I guess I should have called it the back windshield not back window, that's my bad.

On a side note, I did do that DIY on my rear windows too! Actually I just took the old stuff to home depo and bought new seal and they look pretty good Worst part is the lower seals as they are worth their weight in gold, think I paid $150 for each.
