    S54 Diagnose

    Hey all,

A small introduction to what's going on with my s54 specifically on cold start.
Upon startup (when cold) it almost sounds like a misfire for 1 second on initial crank then idles fine, I did do a full beisan kit - full vanos assembly, exhaust hub, new hardware, upper chain guide.
Car ran perfect after my 2nd try lol. No weird cold start issues no lights etc.
2 weeks later, still runs great has more torque than it ever has in my ownership no hiccups,It just has a small hiccup on cold-start then goes away. TPS? IAC?
I don't think it has anything to do with vanos, as it doesn't show any codes and I'm sure it was installed correctly, I never did any adaptations. Thanks in advance!

Was the red oil light on during the rough engine time?

Not that I'm aware of but I will place extra attention on that next time.

It's still chilly in the mornings here in the North East, so it's only been happening early mornings. I've been daily driving it ever since the vanos upgrade, and during lunch break it doesn't do it nor does it do it when I leave work, when I get home I hang around for a few hours then go the gym and it still doesn't happen only mornings so far.. Odd

Red oil light means oil still low P and this can affect the cams timing at first start.

Got it, I'll keep the car cold tonight and check back tomorrow AM. Thanks Sapote!

Having a hard time posting the video, but the light doesn’t come on. Obviously when you start the car the CEL , battery and , OPL is on but quickly turns off on startup. Ironically today was super cold in AM (37F) and it didn’t really hesitate as bad on idle as it normally does.

When the key turned to ON, the red oil light (and others) should be on the dash, then it will be off 1sec later after engine running.

Post video on YT then post the link here.

here we go. It’s a short so I’m not sure if that works. Let me know. Thanks!

it seems to be normal in the video -- red oil light went out at about the right time.
