    Steering Wheel Airbag Pins

I recently picked up a new(old) steering wheel for a great deal and upon transferring over the wiring, I noticed that one of the pins for the airbag on the clock spring side isn’t aligned with the other. I tried wiggling it to see if it was loose/dropped but it seems to be pretty solid. Can anyone confirm if this is how it’s supposed to be?

I think you're asking about that pin that looks bent 2nd from the left? I looked at a picture I had - mine isn't that way. Click image for larger version

Thanks! Idk how the hell that happened on mine, but now I'm wondering what the hell happened and what would've happened if I got into a situation that needed airbag deployment

Bend it back it should be fine, if not. I've got tons of clock springs I'll send you one.

If you installed the connector it would have fought you. If you got it clipped in the pin likely would have broken, either way you'd have an airbag light on.

I would take George up on that replacement clock spring if I were you, airbag systems have to work, you never know when you will need it.

See that's the strange part! The connector had no issues at all fitting back in which made me curious if it was supposed to be like that. No wiggle in the pin, no fitment issues, its as if it came like that.

I'll def take up your offer on the clock spring, good sir!

George, maybe a dumb question, but would a damaged clock spring make your horn go bonkers? I have recently recalled pulling that fuse years ago, and I'd like a functional horn.

IIRC it was shortly after airbag replacement at the dealer…

If the airbag light wasn't on before it wasn't like that originally. Bent pins do happen in weird ways. I've definitely seen it on DSC and DMEs which I have no idea how it could happen.

Clock spring is going out the door today.

Likely the mechanism inside the steering wheel was bent or the airbag wasn't installed properly after the recall. I didn't originally see your recall sentence and my first though was it happened at the recall, so now reading that I would pull the air bag and look everything over inside the wheel.

I *think, like most of us, the airbag has been replaced at least once… I'll pull everything and take a look. Thanks for response and OP thanks for creating the thread
